Reports to: Director III – Custodial & Grounds
GENERAL PURPOSE
Responsible for providing support to the educational process with specific responsibilities for grounds maintenance services at assigned site/s; ensuring attractive and safe grounds area/s and athletic fields; performing a variety of special grounds maintenance operations; and maintaining grounds for assemblies, events, and/or recreational activities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Administers the application of herbicides controlling turf pests and weeds in accordance with established procedures.
- Attend unit meetings, in-service training, and workshops in order to gather information required to perform job functions.
- Clean landscaped areas and related items for the purpose of preventing flooding and removing hazards.
- Maintain and/or repair playground equipment ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition in compliance with established guidelines.
- Maintain grounds keeping equipment ensuring the availability of equipment in a safe operating condition.
- Operate a variety of grounds keeping equipment ensuring the completion of work in a safe and timely manner.
- Maintain a variety of landscaping materials keeping the grounds attractive and protecting against erosion.
- Prepare grounds and athletic fields providing adequate, attractive and safe areas for assemblies, recreational activities and/or athletic events.
- Purchase and/or request materials, supplies, equipment in order to complete assignments in a timely manner.
- Remove snow ensuring safe and assessable facilities.
- Repair irrigation systems and components ensuring equipment and/or components are in proper working order.
- Respond to immediate safety and/or operational concerns taking appropriate action or notifying appropriate personnel for resolution.
- Transport a variety of tools, equipment, and supplies ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.
- Perform other related duties as required/assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or its equivalent.
- Minimum of two (2) years of job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements
- Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
- Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance, the results of which must be satisfactory to the District, required.
- Willingness to obtain the Missouri Pesticide Applicators Examination.
- Willingness to obtain a Playground Safety Inspector Certificate.
- Possession of a valid Driver’s License, with evidence of insurability.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions.
- Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include method of preparing and maintaining various plants; shrubs; lawns; etc.; and safety practices and procedures.
- Skill to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Work environment is indoors and outdoors with regular exposure to weather conditions; in proximity to moving mechanical parts and electrical equipment; and in confined spaces.
- The work is medium work that requires exerting up to 80 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Must possess the physical ability to work primarily with fingers, perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
