Length of Service: 10-week after school program each semester. (Can do one or two Clubs per semester) 1st Semester Club to begin September and end in December (Actual start date to be determined) 2nd Semester Club to begin January and end in April (Actual start date to be determined)
Purpose
The Springfield, Missouri Public School District is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Literacy Tutor for Club Encore.
The Springfield School District is Missouri’s second largest public school district and has built a reputation of academic excellence based on the outstanding performance of our students and schools. About 24,000 students attend 36 elementary schools, an intermediate school, 9 middle schools, 5 high schools and a variety of alternative education and choice programs.
The Club Encore Tutor (previously referred to Extended Learning Program) will deliver instruction and provide educational support to eligible second through sixth grade students who perform significantly below grade level expectations in Literacy and/or Math in the iReady assessment series. Club Encore services are offered to eligible students 90 minutes each day, either on a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday schedule, outside of the regular school day to start at the conclusion of the school day as scheduled by each elementary, intermediate and middle school campus. Teachers will have the option of facilitating one or two clubs per semester
Essential Functions
- Participates in a Club Encore 2-hour tutor training session at assigned tutorial site for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform the position’s functions. Trainings for liaisons and tutors will happen after school at the end of August.
- Plan and implement Club Encore curriculum for 20-23 sessions, 90 minutes per session.
- Analyze and document i-Ready scores for each student within the club to determine readiness level and learning gaps.
- Prepare all materials for each tutoring sessions (supplies will be provided).
- Communicate student successes to parents.
- Remain with students after tutoring until all students have been picked up by approved guardian.
- Communicate essential data to site liaison and coordinator on a regular and consistent basis.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Job Requirements (Minimum Qualifications)
Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation; stages of child development and learning styles; age appropriate activities; and methods of instruction.
Skills are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records.
Ability is required to schedule activities, meetings and/or events; gather, collate and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Employee Punctuality and Appearance
- In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all schedules hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator.

Terms of Employment
The terms of employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in a Missouri public school and Board of Education policy, as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by Collective Bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between SPS and that Collective Bargaining representative.
Education
Minimum of sixty (60) college hours and a substitute certification and/or teaching certification awarded through the department of elementary and secondary education.
Equivalency
Exceptional job related experience may be considered in lieu of experience requirements listed.

Background clearance, the results of which must be satisfactory to the District, required
Certificates and Licenses
- Ability to obtain and maintain substitute certificate, or current teaching certificate is required, providing sufficient proof that the process has been started prior to hire (All fees for the initial substitute certificate and renewals, which occurs every 4 years, is the responsibility of the staff member.)
- Ability to complete training and professional development requirements set by DESE, Springfield Public Schools, and the Special Services department for paraprofessionals
- Ability to obtain and maintain physical intervention training (provided by the district)
