Purpose Statement
The Springfield, Missouri Public School District is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Specialist II, IT Support.
The Springfield School District is Missouri’s largest public school district and has built a reputation of academic excellence based on the outstanding performance of our students and schools. About 25,000 students attend 36 elementary schools, an intermediate school, 9 middle schools, 5 high schools, and a variety of alternative education and choice programs.
The job of Specialist II, IT Support is done for the purpose/s of installing, upgrading and configuring workstations within the district for special education sites; resolving software and hardware problems; developing and delivering job aides; and setting passwords and security levels.
Essential Functions
- Administers district policies regarding use of computers and data access (e.g. updating virus software, set passwords, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with district policy and departmental guidelines.
- Develops user job aids and on-line library of supplemental instructions (e.g. special education software implementation, etc.) for the purpose of enhancing staff ability to utilize computer.
- Installs PC servers, print drivers, scanners, etc. for the purpose of ensuring availability for use by District personnel.
- Interacts with the District network for the purpose of installing, configuring and troubleshooting work stations.
- Maintains workstation and server functionality (e.g. install patches and/or upgrades, maintain servers, support Active Directory, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of desktop and server functionality for all users.
- Performs initial workstation computer, peripheral and server set-ups (e.g. installation, testing, configuring, assigning passwords, security clearances, imaging, etc.) for the purpose of meeting the computer processing needs of the users.
- Provides training and in-service in general computer use, software applications, and file server operations for the purpose of ensuring the efficient use of computers and/or software.
- Responds to requests for help, repairs, training, and/or upgrades, etc. by work order system for the purpose of providing information, scheduling appointments and/or referring to alternate resources.
- Tests application software for the purpose of ensuring that product matches defined requirements and expected functionality.
- Troubleshoots user issues with computer workstations and servers (e.g. questions about application software, connectivity issues, peripheral malfunctions, etc.) for the purpose of providing immediate assistance to users for problem resolution.
- Creates and administers high school student accounts utilizing active directory for the purpose of maintaining accurate records.
- Manages local computer network resources including but not limited to servers, shares, backups and connectivity for the purpose of ensuring functionality of equipment.
- Initiates and manages internal projects as it relates to curriculum based programs for the purpose of providing information and/or direction.
- Maintains and upgrades existing computer labs for specialized testing and programs for the purpose of ensuring functionality of equipment.
- Assists school administrators in procurement and installation of approved software and devices for the purpose of meeting purchasing and software requirements.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements (Minimum Qualifications)
Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percent, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: intermediate knowledge of a range of software packages including Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, Microsoft Office Suite and Basic Networking. Should be familiar with DHCP, DNS, IP, network traffic routing, WAN, LAN and internet connectivity.
Skills are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: strong customer service skills, pleasant and tactful demeanor and professional appearance and conduct
Ability is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Employee Punctuality and Appearance
- In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator.

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; utilization of significant resources from other work units is sometimes required to perform the job's functions. Terms of Employment
The terms of employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in a Missouri public school and Board of Education policy, as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by Collective Bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between SPS and that Collective Bargaining representative.
Experience
Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility, required.
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent, required.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40% sitting, 30% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard free environment.
